THE CORAL GARDENS ATROCITY OF 1963
Throughout history events occur repeatedly as a result of man’s in- ability to recognize, rationalize and learn from them. Persecution of humans for their religious affiliations is documented throughout the ages.-Q’damawi Haile Selassie
The events that led to the overwhelming persecution, brutalization, victimization and discrimination of Rastafari families across Jamaica was spear headed by the government of the day and her citizens.
To date no reparation was given to these disenfranchised Rastafari families who have paid such a high price for their innocence, I will now share a summary of these Atrocities.
Rudolf Franklyn a Rasta man was cultivating a small garden in the Coral Gardens area, he also burnt fire coal and sold his produce, he was kind and did no one any harm. Unfortunately Rudolph found him- self in unresolved conflicts with Fowler the overseer for the property. The Police was called in to investigate the matter, who with their heavy handed approach shot Rudolph several times, leaving him to die.
As a result of heroic efforts on the part of doctors at the Montego Bay hospital, his life was saved. He was permanently disabled as a result of the attack and had no choice but to live with an artificial bowel, af- ter being released from the hospital he was charged with resisting ar- rest and sentenced to six months in prison, although he had a severe medical handicap.
